The Lindt & Sprüngli group is firmly dedicated to ensuring that its operations and supply chains remain free from human trafficking, forced labor, and other forms of modern slavery. This commitment is reinforced through the Lindt & Sprüngli Supplier Code of Conduct, which obligates all suppliers to comply with applicable national and international human rights laws, including principles outlined by the International Labour Organization and the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights. By embedding these standards into supplier agreements, the company seeks to guarantee ethical and responsible practices at every stage of production and sourcing.

To uphold these principles, Lindt & Sprüngli conducts regular risk assessments to identify potential areas of concern within its supply network. When vulnerabilities are discovered, the company collaborates with suppliers to develop targeted improvement programs designed to close gaps and ensure compliance with the Code of Conduct. Independent third-party evaluations are often used to validate adherence and provide additional assurance that suppliers maintain ethical operations.

Auditing is a central element of the group’s approach to responsible sourcing. Lindt & Sprüngli retains the right to conduct or commission audits of supplier facilities to verify conformity with ethical standards. Suppliers deemed at higher risk for noncompliance, particularly regarding human trafficking and forced labor, are monitored more intensively, including external audits and ongoing evaluation. Broader monitoring systems track supplier performance across multiple regions and programs, such as the China Supplier Development Program, the Farming Program for cocoa sourced from Ghana and Ecuador, partnerships with hazelnut producers in Turkey, and palm oil suppliers.

Suppliers are required to formally affirm their commitment to the Supplier Code of Conduct. This includes agreeing to regular audits, communicating ethical standards to employees, agents, subcontractors, and downstream partners, and implementing measures to ensure full compliance. Failure to adhere to these standards can result in the termination of business relationships.

Within the company, employees follow a Business Code of Conduct that supports compliance with legal, ethical, and social responsibilities. Leadership at all levels, including group company CEOs, is responsible for training staff, monitoring adherence to the code, and taking corrective actions where needed. Disciplinary measures can range from guidance and remediation to termination for violations of ethical standards.

Training is a vital component of this program, ensuring that both employees and suppliers, including cocoa farmers engaged in the Farming Program in Ghana, receive ongoing education on human rights, ethical sourcing, and anti-slavery practices. These sessions reinforce awareness of responsibilities and expectations throughout the supply chain.

Through comprehensive audits, continuous risk assessments, supplier verification, employee accountability, and ongoing training, Lindt & Sprüngli works to maintain supply chains that are transparent, responsible, and free from exploitation. This commitment reflects the company’s dedication to protecting human rights, supporting sustainable practices, and fostering ethical operations across all areas of its business.
